Workflows and procedures

The CMS uses workflows, which are composed of stages, steps and tasks. These are shown in the workflow navigation for each procedure.

For example, an Infringement action has:

  • Stages - the Written, Interim and Oral procedures. Each stage has:
    • Steps, such as Statement of Claim, Panel, Service, and Defence. Within each step there may be sub-steps or:
      • Tasks, such as Claimants Data, Representative Data, Patent Data, Defendants Data and so on
CMS workflow
  • Workflows will not show upcoming stages and tasks, as these will vary depending on the choices made during previous tasks. For example, if there are multiple defendants then multiple defence stages will be required
  • This workflow model is used for all CMS procedures and actors:
    • Main proceedings (Actions)
    • Related proceedings (Applications, Requests, Appeals, etc)
    • Stand-alone Applications
    • Orders and decisions
